Research assistants working in HPL are exposed to a variety of studies many of which use physiological responses as an index of emotion, motivation or intentions. Research assistants learn how to work with impedance cardiography, electrocardiography, electromyography, peripheral measures, and electrogastrography to name a few. Our research questions focus on areas regarding discrimination and stigmatization, the experience of emotion and its influence on behavior and judgment, and how stress influences decision-making across the life span. Many of our research assistants are either pre-med or interested in graduate school in psychology, though many others have gone on to MBA programs, law school, and dental school. Research assistants are expected to work 10 hours a week and joining the lab requires a commitment of at least two semesters.
